1) What are your plans for the future and, if there are any, with Bud Spencer?
There will be probably a fourth series of "Don Matteo". I've other plans too, and I would like very much to make a movie with Bud, but it's really difficult to find the right script for us; if it happens, we will be certainly back together!
2) You and Bud Spencer are used to meet in your spare time?
Because of the work, we don't nearly have any spare time. It's a long time that I don't have a real holiday. However we're always been great friends, so we are in contact to each other and we meet as frequently as we can.
3) What do you think about the non-recognitions in Italy?
To be sincere, I do not care for it, because the real success is decided by the audience appreciation. Then the important awards are just an inattention from the work. Bud, on the contrary, gets a bit angry with it, but I understand him!
4) Which is for you the most important movie, the most beautiful one and finally the one you're most affectionate to?
The most important is "Trinità", the most beautiful is "My name is nobody", and now I feel affection towards "Don Matteo".
5) Have you ever fall in love with the actresses whom you've worked with in the 50-60's?
No, I've always made a big distinction between work and feelings.
6) How can one do in order to know you and Bud?
You have to stay tuned on my site: if there will be some public apparitions and thus the possibility to meet us, you will know it!
7) Which is your favourite soundtrack?
The one from a my own movie or in general?
It is not specified!
Well, among my movies I prefer the one from "My name is nobody"...
...also "Why" from "Don Camillo" is beautiful!
Yes, it's true...
...and in general?
I like very much the one from "C'era una volta il west" by Ennio Morricone, and the one from "Witness".
8) In Don Matteo there is frequently the play of chess; it's a favourite one of yours?
Yes, it is. I like playing chess very much, when I have time.
9) Where was"Lo chiamavano Trinità" shot?
On the Simbruini mountains, between Lazio and Abruzzo, in different places like Camerata and Camposecco. "Continuavano a chiamarlo Trinità" on the Gran Sasso.
10) Do you think you'll make the fourth series of Don Matteo?
Of course Don Matteo will come back on tv, but I would like to shot some film sometimes, like it was done for the tenent Colombo. I think so because an entire series of sixteen episodes is too hard, not just for me but for everyone, both for the actors and for the troupe.
11) Do you know something about the actress of "Continuavano a chiamarlo Trinità" and "...e poi lo chiamarono il Magnifico?"
Ah! Yanti Somer!
Yes!
No, I don't, I have had news from her no more; maybe... I think she's come back to her country, the Finland.
12) Did it taste really good the slop you've prepared in "Io sto con gli ippopotami" with caviar, champagne, buuter, salt and pepper?
Absolutely no! But you know... in the movie it must be good!
13) Which is the most funny movie you made with Bud? That is, when you enjoied more...
Of course the two Trinità.
14) What do you think of Bud, both as an actor and as a man?
Eh, I should talk a lot of time in order to answer this question, I can't synthesize in a few words what I think of him, I would be too simplicist. Thus I pass to the next question, if you don't mind.
15) As a child, did you go to the cinema? Who was your favourite actor?
I seldom went to the cinema and my favourite actors were Stanlio and Ollio. Then, when I was a teenager I liked Gary Cooper in "Mezzogiorno di fuoco" and John Ford's movies very much.
16) Do you like the western movies played by John Wayne?
Yes, of course, those ones too. Westerns have always been my passion.
17) You've always been a sportsman, and everyone can see it even in your films. Which are the sport you practised and you still like to practise?
It is true, I practised sport since I was a child, and that was very helpful in my career. I practised swimming, gymnastic with a lot of apparatus, and then riding and skiing. Also motorbike has always been a great passion.
18) Why you and Bud have always been dubbed?
At that time they used to do so, in order to give the characters the most fit voices; then in Italy we've the best dubbers. you have to consider the time saving too. Therefore, when a voice reached the success, it couldn't be changed.
19) But in Don Matteo you have your voice: why?
Yes, it was my decision. The character was so different from the past ones and I thought that my voice could be fit for it. In the beginning it has been hard, I've also studied diction because it's a long time that I speak and play only in English; but finally I did it!
20) How many languages can you speak?
Four: Italian, English, German and Spanish.
21) Your fans writed to us from the world-widw and everybody asks if you will go in his/her own country to shot a movie. I'm talking about United Kingdom, Norway, Australia, New Zeland, Germany, Japan...
I don't still know where my future plans will take me, I've some alternatives to examine. It is probable that I stay here in Italy, too. But now I'd like to have a vacation, maybe in Norway.
22) Where do you feel at home?
Wherever I am together with my family, my wife Lori and my son Jess.
As I have already said, to come here in Gubbio is like come back to my roots. My father, in fact, was from Umbria and when I was a child I lived in the neighbourhood.
23) Some questions are odds, but I do them anyway: which was your first car? And do you like more cats or dogs?
It was a Fiat 600, and I prefer the cats.
24) How do you maintain your body in good form? Do you have a secret?
No, there are no secrets, I've always practised a lot of sports, when I'm at home I like getting up early in the morning and running; when it's snowing I ski in the woods near my house. Then I don't drink alcohol, I don't smoke and I like eating very simple foods.
25) You have always said that when you was a child you desired to be also a jet pilot, is it true?
Yes, it is. I said I wanted to be a pilot or an actor, but I didn't know exactly what it means to be an actor.
During the shooting of "Più forte ragazzi" Bud Spencer took the pilot's licence, why didn't you?
I have always prefered to devote myself just to a thing, in that case only to the movie.
26) You and Bud, whose name was still Carlo Pedersoli, played in the same movie, "Annibale", but you didn't meet. Do you remember how you know each other?
It's true, we met after some years, during "Dio perdona io no". It happened in Madrid, in the hall of the hotel, the day before the beginning. Actually we felt good together; I already knew him but I didn't tell him that when i was a child I admired him as a swimming champion.
27) Who are your favourite singers?
Fiorella Mannoia and Celine Dion.
28) There's a girl who would like you to give a name to her little horse. Did you have a horse? And what was its name?
Yes, when I was in Spain I had a wonderful horse for three years, but it is still in my heart. Its name was Destinado.
29) How did you change your name from Mario Girotti to Terence Hill? A lot of people think you are Massimo Girotti's relative...
No, I'm not his relative. For the movie "Dio perdona io no" they ask me to choose in a day an american name from a list. I chose Terence Hill because it sounded good and it was easy to pronounce because it is read like it's written. Then the first letters were the same of my mother's name. A sign of good luck, the movie had a big success! It was why, even if I signed in order to take back my name at the end, they forbade it to me because I was already famous as Terence Hill.
...and the story I read about the name from the latin author Terenzio and the surname from your wife?
It has been invented by a journalist who interviewed me at that time; he wanted to make the thing more interesting writing that I took my wife's surname to pay homage to the women, since it was the period of the femminists.
30) Now we end with your beginning. You wanted to be a jet pilot, but when you was twelve your career as an actor started: how did it happen?
My mother knew from a friend that they were seeking for children for a movie: I went with my two brothers and Dino Risi immediately chose me (ed. The movie was "Vacation with a Gangster"). His helper saw me some days after in the swimming-pool, but the decision was taken.
